Spy: Analyze Competitors’ Keyword Rankings in the App Store

The Spy feature in ASO.dev is a wrapper over the Keywords screen, offering the same interface but with a key difference: instead of showing your own keywords, it displays the keywords for any selected app.
This helps you easily discover the keywords other apps are ranking for in the App Store.

All you need to do is enter the app ID or paste the app link, and you will instantly see all the keywords for which the app is ranking in the search results.

You can also save these keywords to your project’s Keyword List for further analysis and use in your app’s metadata.

How to Use the Spy

To use Spy, simply enter the ID or paste the link of any iOS app you want to analyze.
After that, the main information about the specified app will be displayed.

If you already have a Competitor List, you can select an app from the list by clicking on the app card and choose another competitor for analysis.

The data displayed on the app card includes:

  • App icon
  • App position: The app’s ranking on the selected date.
  • Change in position
    • - [Position] ↓: Indicates a drop in position by a certain number of positions
    • + [Position] ↑: Indicates an increase in position by a certain number of positions
    • ↘: No longer ranked.
    • ↗: New ranking position.

When you hover over the position change, a tooltip will display the current and previous positions.

  • Previous position: Indicates the app’s previous position for Out of Top applications.
  • App name
  • Subtitle
  • Current rating
  • Number of ratings
  • Publisher
  • Number of downloads
  • Revenue data (for grossing apps)
  • Price: Indicates whether the app is totally free or free with in-app purchases or paid.
  • App Id: The unique identifier for the app in the App Store.
    • Button to copy the app’s link to the Clipboard.
    • Button to open the app’s page directly in the App Store.
  • Bookmark icon button to add to the Competitors list
  • Button with a shield for viewing the app’s keywords through the Spy screen

Clicking on the app card will open App information view.

If you have a Competitor App List, clicking on the app card will show the Competitor App List for quick switching between them.

Spy Results

After selecting an app, Spy will immediately display all the keywords for which the app is appearing in the search results.
Since all keywords are shown, the amount of data can be quite large, giving you a complete view of the app’s visibility in the search results.
